Ladder is seeking an Applications Security Engineer to own application security vulnerability management within a high-scale JVM/Clojure backend. You will partner with development teams, monitor cloud security, and lead risk reviews while enabling secure, scalable development practices.

The role emphasizes hands-on code security, incident response, and governance, with a focus on building secure defaults and mentoring engineers. Remote role across 23 states with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering and/or cybersecurity experience.
• Hands-on in the JVM environment with functional code experience.
• Experience securing modern cloud infrastructures and incident response.
• Ability to design security frameworks that scale and reduce vulnerabilities.
• Baseline certifications such as CompTIA Security+; CISSP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Secure the Code: champion application security vulnerability management with development teams.
• Security Ops: monitor cloud security posture and respond to threats in real-time.
• Governance & Risk: conduct security reviews and risk assessments for architecture and vendors.
• Protect the Workspace: ensure IAM, device compliance, and secure productivity tools.
• Drive Technical Excellence: mentor engineers on secure coding and secure defaults.
