Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Data Engineer - API & AI Gateway Platform Engineer to design, develop, and support enterprise API and AI gateway platforms across cloud and on-prem environments. You will partner with application teams and platform teams to enable governance, security, and reliable delivery.

The role requires experience with Apigee, Kubernetes, Docker, cloud-native infra, CI/CD, and API security frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree with relevant data and healthcare context experience.
• Strong data analysis, profiling, and modeling capabilities.
• Experience designing or operating API management platforms or gateways.
• Knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure, containers, and CI/CD tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support enterprise API & AI Gateway platforms.
• Build scalable proxies/services for REST/SOAP integrations.
• Implement API security (OAuth, JWT, API keys, mTLS).
• Develop governance: versioning, lifecycle, API design best practices.
• Support multi-cloud/hybrid deployments (GCP, Azure, on-prem).
• Create CI/CD pipelines and automation for deployments.
• Configure traffic policies: rate limiting, caching, load balancing.
• Monitor performance with analytics, logging, and observability tools.
• Integrate APIs with backend systems and microservices.
• Participate in migration from legacy gateways to cloud-native solutions.
• Ensure security, regulatory, and data privacy compliance.
