Job summary

Flock is hiring a remote Android Framework Engineer to join our USA-based team. This full-time role focuses on building core system services in headless Android environments and includes deep work on AOSP stack, Perfetto tracing, and custom hardware integration.

You will architect and implement Android system services, develop testable features in Kotlin/Java/Rust, and diagnose OS-level performance issues across Qualcomm-based hardware.

Qualifications

• Proficient in design of versioned service interfaces using AIDL/HIDL to expose hardware functionality to system apps.
• Strong Kotlin and Java skills; solid OS threading, coroutines, synchronization, and memory management knowledge.
• Experience with custom AOSP environments, shell scripts, init.rc, and SE Linux policies.
• Ability to trace execution flow across Android stack using Perfetto, tracing tools, and tombstone logs.
• Experience with C/C++, Linux kernel drivers, or Qualcomm camera stacks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement custom Android system services, AIDL interfaces, and hardware abstractions for headless AOSP builds.
• Build testable system-level features using Kotlin, Java, Rust, and C++ to interface between kernel and app layer.
• Diagnose OS-level memory leaks, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks with Perfetto and Android Profiler.
• Develop CTS and VTS test suites, unit tests, and OTA pipelines to maintain fleet reliability.
• Conduct root-cause analysis on tombstones, bug reports, and kernel logs across custom hardware.
