Job summary

Flock Safety is hiring an Android Framework Engineer to join the Device OS team. This embedded role builds the guts of our headless Android-based devices, crafting system services, IPC interfaces, and hardware abstractions for autonomous data processing in the field.

The role emphasizes deep Android OS knowledge, AOSP scripting, and performance optimization, with salary in the $130k–$160k range and stock options. Eligible for extensive benefits and a strong, fast-paced team culture.

Qualifications

• Experience designing versioned service interfaces via AIDL/HIDL for headless Kotlin apps.
• Developed testable service implementations in Rust/C++.
• Knowledge of Android build system and API design between kernel and apps.
• Strong Kotlin/Java development with threading, memory management, and testing.
• Exposure to or interest in AOSP development and init.rc scripting.
• Familiarity with CI tools (JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, GitHub).
• Nice to have C/C++ lower stack, Linux kernel driver experience, and embedded Linux.

Responsibilities

• Develop system services, IPC interfaces (AIDL), and hardware abstractions for headless Android devices.
• Work on custom AOSP builds with focus on performance and reliability.
• Contribute to system apps and services across multiple platforms.
• Debug across stack layers and optimize for power, performance, and stability.
• Assist with OTA updates, security policies, and device tracing.
