Job summary

Orbis Operations is building AI agent capabilities to power mission-critical workflows. The AI Agent Engineer designs, builds, and deploys multi-agent workflows for triage, data retrieval, summarization, reporting, and escalation. The role also focuses on how employees work with AI, owning intake, self-service, and enablement to ensure adoption.

Travel is occasional to McLean, VA, and the company emphasizes tooling, cost control, and measurable outcomes in a mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Must have 5 years of proven experience translating user requirements into wireframes, workflows.
• Must have 1-year proven experience utilizing Claude or similar commercial offering to build AI agents.
• Demonstrated experience building a functioning multi-agent workflow with handoff and context sharing.
• Practical command of prompt engineering including retrieval-augmented generation and tool calling.
• Ability to explain technical work to non-technical audiences and gather requirements from stakeholders.
• Experience troubleshooting AI workflows and identifying whether issues originate in prompts, tools, data, or orchestration.
• Proficiency with APIs and scripting to build and debug workflows; coding inside constraints should not block.
• Strong written communication; produces documentation, runbooks, and reports.
• Experience designing internal tooling used by non-engineers.
• Experience designing intake or self-service mechanisms to reduce manual requests.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy agentic AI workflows and multi-agent orchestration.
• Explain systems to non-technical stakeholders and translate plain-language needs into workflows.
• Collaborate with process owners to ensure capabilities meet actual needs.
• Monitor production, diagnose failures, and determine when to involve engineering.
• Own cost of execution and optimize through caching or deterministic steps.
• Set quality standards, define review checkpoints, and verify adherence.
• Document build processes with runbooks and SOPs.
• Integrate workflows across Orbis products like Catalyst, Pulse, and Discovery.
• Deliver leadership reporting on resolution, escalation, accuracy, and response times.
• Identify capability gaps and drive adoption with clear roadmaps and tooling.
