Job summary

Akima is seeking an Assessment and Authorization Team Lead to guide RMF-based security assessments across the DOE framework. This remote role requires senior cybersecurity leadership, strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5, and experience coordinating complex A&A activities with federal teams.

The ideal candidate will mentor teams, manage assessment artifacts, and interface with leadership to ensure compliant, secure, and resilient DOE systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or four years of equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity operations, security control assessments, or related technical security functions.
• Experience leading teams in assessing and determining control applicability in cloud and non-cloud environments.
• Strong RMF process knowledge and familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 and cybersecurity frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Assessment and Authorization activities across RMF phases (planning, analysis, testing, documentation, presentation).
• Analyze issues, prepare briefings, and keep projects on schedule and budget.
• Provide expert guidance on A&A, security controls, and risk management.
• Mentor and lead cybersecurity professionals (SAT, ConMon, ISSOs, SOs, TPOCs, SCAs).
• Coordinate responses to security data calls and audits (FISMA, DOE).
• Liaise with leadership and stakeholders across teams and contractors.
