Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking an Investment Associate to join a long/short REIT and Real Estate equity team in New York. The role offers significant responsibility from day one, working directly with the Portfolio Manager on idea generation, company analysis, and portfolio monitoring.

The successful candidate will perform fundamental research across a broad real estate spectrum, build NAV-based valuations, and contribute to investment memos.

Qualifications

• 4-10 years of relevant experience in equity research or investing, preferably covering REITs, Real Estate, or related sectors.
• Experience on the buy-side (long/short or long-only).
• Demonstrated passion for public markets and fundamental stock picking.
• Strong financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and real estate underwriting skills.
• Knowledge of REIT business models, property-level fundamentals, NAV analysis, and real estate capital markets.
• Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct deep fundamental research on publicly traded REITs and real estate-related companies across sectors including Residential, Industrial, Data Centers, Cell Towers, Office, Retail, Healthcare, Self-Storage, Hotels, and Specialty REITs.
• Build and maintain detailed financial models, earnings forecasts, NAV valuations, and company-specific underwriting frameworks.
• Generate actionable long and short investment ideas through primary and secondary research.
• Analyze industry trends, property market fundamentals, capital markets activity, development pipelines, leasing trends, and other key real estate drivers.
• Monitor portfolio holdings, earnings releases, property transactions, financing activity, and macroeconomic developments impacting the sector.
• Prepare investment memos and communicate recommendations directly to the Portfolio Manager.
