Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC, seeks a Correctional Programs Supervisor (S) to administer rehabilitation programs and supervise staff in a close-custody facility.

You will coordinate educational/vocational, volunteer, religious, and recreation programs, and oversee offender classification and counseling while maintaining clear communication with staff, offenders, and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field and one year of experience in corrections or related work.
• Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate staff; manage correctional programs.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and evaluate documents and behavioral data.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff.
• Instruct offenders in use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling (including suicide prevention).
• Work in close custody facilities under stressful conditions.
• Account for supplies and conduct surveillance of assigned area.
• Obtain Notary public certification to provide notary services for offenders.
• Conduct background checks for volunteers and contracted staff.
