Job summary

Waymo is hiring a regulatory attorney to advise on U.S. state and local frameworks for autonomous vehicle technology. You will partner with cross-functional teams to shape regulatory outcomes and represent Waymo’s interests with government authorities and agencies.

The role reports to an Assistant General Counsel in a hybrid work environment and requires 2–4+ years of regulatory experience, strong analytical, and exceptional communication skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar membership.
• 2 to 4+ years of experience as an attorney in admin law, agency regulations, regulatory legislation and/or compliance.
• Experience with autonomous vehicles or related sectors such as automotive, ride-hailing, delivery.
• Strong analytical acumen and written and oral communication skills.
• Experience responding to regulatory inquiries, audits, and information requests in collaboration with engineering, data science, product, safety, and compliance teams.
• Ability to propose practical solutions and lead legal compliance and risk mitigation efforts with urgency.

Responsibilities

• Advise on the applicability of U.S. state and local legal frameworks to novel operational scenarios and cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology.
• Partner with cross-functional partners to support regulatory and legislative outcomes for the transportation industry.
• Represent Waymo’s legal and regulatory interests, fostering proactive relationships with government authorities and stakeholders.
• Advise teams building scalable operational and regulatory compliance programs and processes.
• Support the expansion of highly regulated business operations.
• Gain subject matter expertise in new areas as novel issues and topics emerge.
