Job summary

Waymo LLC, a leader in autonomous driving, seeks an experienced IP attorney to build and manage a global patent portfolio across lidar, radar, camera, and compute. You will counsel engineering teams on IP terms and collaborate with product, strategy, and partnerships to protect critical technology assets.

You will report to an Assistant General Counsel in a hybrid role and help drive complex licensing, acquisitions, and regulatory or university engagements.

Qualifications

• JD degree with state bar membership and USPTO admission.
• 6+ years of relevant legal experience in IP.
• Technical background in autonomous vehicle tech, sensors, or semiconductors.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage a global patent portfolio across key tech areas.
• Advise business teams and engineers on IP terms in transactions.
• Collaborate across legal, product, partnerships, and academic entities on IP issues.
• Review publications and disclosures to manage IP risk.
• Manage IP-related communications and potential licensing or acquisitions.
