Job summary

Knoxville Utilities Board is seeking a student to support environmental and natural gas regulatory compliance work groups. You will conduct research and draft concise summaries on environmental issues, regulations, and technologies, and assist with procedures, spreadsheets, job aids, and training materials.

The role includes field assignments, site visits, facility audits, and inspections, plus administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student pursuing an associates, bachelor's, or graduate degree.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Minimum 15 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Good oral and written communication.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

About the Role:

This position is intended to support the environmental and natural gas regulatory compliance work groups. Duties may include, but will not be limited to: conducting research and drafting concise summaries on environmental issues, regulations, and technologies; assisting with the development of procedures, spreadsheets, job aids, and training materials; assisting with or conducting field assignments, site visits, facility audits, and inspections; assisting with the development of event materials; and conducting administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and data analysis. Other projects, tasks, and duties will be assigned as needed.

Physical Requirements

Works primarily in an office setting, but regular field visits and activities required. Requires bending, stooping, some lifting, working in awkward and strenuous positions at times, and mobility over rough terrain. The physical demands above are intended to relate to the approximate physical demands of the classification.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be and maintain full-time student status of an accredited college or university pursuing an Associates, Bachelors, or a graduate-level degree
  • Have and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or advanced degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Policy or other applicable science or engineering degree from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to write reports, summaries, and articles that require minimal review
  • Experience with using MS Office, Microstation, AutoCad, and/or Geographical
  • Information Systems (Intergraph and/or ESRI)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
