Job summary

Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) is seeking a student GIS/Data Analyst to support mapping and data analysis. You will use ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Excel to create maps, drawings, and tables for utility operations and field projects, and collect GPS data to keep records up to date.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable with technology and data, pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, or graduate degree, and available 15–29 hours per week, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• GPA 2.5 or higher
• Full-time student status
• Ability to work 15 hours per week, Monday–Friday 7:00am–5:00pm
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Create accurate maps, drawings, and tables for utility operations and field projects using ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Excel
• Assist with utility records research, data validation, and analysis
• Collect utility GPS data and help keep records and mapping information up to date
• Prepare work site drawings and special sketches
• Support a fast-paced, detail-oriented team in a technology-driven environment

About the Role:

Join our team and put your skills in GIS, mapping, and data analysis to work! This position uses ESRI, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Excel to create accurate maps, drawings, and tables that support utility operations and field projects.
You’ll assist with utility records research, data validation, analysis, and problem resolution, as well as prepare work site drawings and special sketches. You’ll also collect utility GPS data and help ensure records and mapping information are accurate and up to date.
We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working with technology and data. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, learning new things, and taking on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and / or exceed those demands described above.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have and maintain a full-time student status at an accredited college or university pursuing an associates, Bachelor's, or graduate-level degree or related certification
• Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 7:00am and 5:00pm
• Must possess skills in MS Office applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Requirements:

• Pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, or related field
• Experience using ESRI Geographical Information Systems and/or AutoCAD
