Job summary

Knoxville Utilities Board is seeking an Engineering Associate to help keep water and wastewater systems running safely and efficiently. Working alongside Engineers, Project Coordinators, and other professionals, you’ll tackle a variety of hands-on field and engineering projects with opportunities to learn and grow.

You’ll help find underground water leaks, identify wastewater I&I sources, maintain and troubleshoot metering and pressure equipment, and support system improvements and capital

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 1–3 years of demonstrated experience in related field.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, and specifications.
• Ability to work as part of a team to achieve departments and KUB goals.
• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

About the Role:

Join our team and help keep essential water and wastewater systems running safely and efficiently. Working alongside Engineers, Project Coordinators, and other professionals, you’ll tackle a variety of hands-on field and engineering projects with opportunities to learn and grow.

You’ll help find underground water leaks, identify wastewater I&I sources, maintain and troubleshoot metering and pressure equipment, and support system improvements. You’ll also support capital improvements and operation and maintenance activities in KUB’s water and wastewater systems, provide customer support, and train for storm response and other emergency activities.

Physical Requirements:

May require walking up to five miles per day over rough and/or hilly terrain when assisting with field surveying and layout work. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness quite frequently. Position may require ability to: drive vehicles; bend, stoop and lift various objects weighing 10-75 lbs two to three times per week; and work in all types of weather, with exposure to equipment and machine noise, dirt, and traffic. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and / or exceed those demands described above.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

• One (1) to three (3) years of demonstrated experience in related field

• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, and specifications

• Ability to work as part of a team to achieve departments and KUB goals

• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills

• Valid driver's license

Preferred Requirements:

• Associates degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, or related field from an accredited community college or university

• Two or more (2+) years of experience in engineering or construction, preferably with a public utility

• Experience in Construction Project Management

• Experience in various computer skills including GIS, Excel, SharePoint, Word, and Project Management Software
