Job description

We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer for our Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team. In this role, you will develop, review, consult, and ensure engineering designs comply with applicable safety requirements, regulations, and standards. Strong technical skills and innovative problem-solving are essential for success. This position reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Functional Safety.

Key job responsibilities

1. Apply and educate relevant stakeholders on national and international standards throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to production.
2. Ensure the execution of rigorous testing practices and design process flows.
3. Work in a fast-paced environment.
4. Develop a deep understanding of the business and customer needs.
5. Resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways.
6. Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong cross-functional relationships.
7. Apply safety principles according to standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 79, NFPA 70, EU Machinery Regulation, CE Marking Directives, UL 508A, IEC 62061, ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
8. Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills.
9. Manage projects of varying complexity within tight timelines.

About the team

The MSP - Design for Scale (DfS) team provides structure, expertise, oversight, processes, and tools to enable MSP to deploy safe automation solutions at scale, improving customer experience, reducing costs, eliminating waste, and maintaining competitive advantage. The team includes Hardware Engineering, Technical Program Management, Advanced Quality Planning, Safety & Compliance, Reliability, Strategic Sourcing, and Design for Assembly, collaborating across the FTR network.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience with safety standards and regulations.
• Experience managing projects of all levels of complexity with tight timelines.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
