Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Inform patients about estimates, collect balances and educate on financial assistance when applicable.
  • Obtain signatures and insurance cards to complete admission records and generate facesheet/blueplate.
  • Provide information about insurance verification and authorization; reschedule if needed.
  • Perform intake tasks: phone calls, scheduling orders, faxes and walk-ins for registration.
  • Prioritize workload and adapt to changes to support department goals.
  • Promote teamwork and provide coverage across registration areas; train coworkers as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle high-pressure situations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

Full Time , Days , 40 HR days 8:30am - 5pm

To facilitate a positive patient experiences as well as proper billing procedures, this role is responsible for the accurate completion of all registration related duties including, but not limited to, patient check-in, registration, verifying demographic/insurance information, validating authorizations/referrals, scheduling, patient portal enrollment, and point of service collections. This position will educate patients upfront of their estimated financial responsibilities, perform compassionate and professional efforts to secure payments prior to service where appropriate, and provide information related to assistance programs when applicable. This role will maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA as well as Waterbury Hospital’s Compliance and Privacy standards as well as all other corporate policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure complete and accurate patient demographics and financial data for all Inpatient and Outpatient accounts supported by the department of Central Registration (Radiology, ED, Behavioral Health, Lab, etc).
  • Inform patients of hospital policy to collect estimated self-pay balances prior to elective services or at time of discharge for non-elective services; Collect on estimated balances; Educate patients of financial assistance programs and initiate as appropriate; Proactively upscale financially unsecured accounts to department leadership.
  • Obtaining all appropriate signatures and insurance cards to complete admission record when meeting with patient face to face. Generate facesheet and blueplate as required, routing to appropriate area.
  • Provide patient with information regarding the process of verifying insurance and authorization as required including the potential for rescheduling of services if authorization not obtained prior to services being performed.
  • Able to perform intake tasks to include but not limited to phone calls, Scheduling Order forms, faxes and walk-in patients for registration.
  • Utilizing analytical skills, is able to make efficient use of work time to accomplish assignments and expected outputs as well as the ability to accept or respond to change in the work environment in a way that promotes department goals and objectives, to include notifying Team Leader when able to additional work. Demonstrate ability to prioritize workload.
  • Promote and maintain working relationships within a multi-skilled team environment to facilitate department/hospital vision and goals.
  • Provide coverage as needed in the various areas of registration and participates as a preceptor in the training of co-workers.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure.
  • Any other duties as required and necessary to the position.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and ability to use PC, electronic modality, and a variety of other business equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively with physician, patients, staff, visitors and others.
  • Requires knowledge and use of reference materials as provided in a multi-faceted.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, time management skills and follow appropriate procedures when setting priorities and handling stressful situations.
  • Clerical and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential patient financial and medical information.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospital billing, third party collection requirements and Credit & Collection policies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work in a business office environment, which requires the accessing of information from many sources, systems, locations and media.
  • Physical requirements involve some lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending and standing.
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
  • Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years experience in a hospital, physician’s office or other type of medical setting with emphasis in patient registration and communicating billing and collections policies.
  • Ability to follow direction and comply with office policies / procedures
  • Must be able to accept additional responsibilities as appropriate.
