Job summary

Dupont-Hospital is seeking a RegistrAR to support patient care by accurately capturing demographic and insurance information via in-person and telephone interactions. The role schedules procedures, pre-registers patients, verifies eligibility, and maintains complete patient records while delivering excellent customer service.

The Registrar will gather financial estimates, communicate with physician offices, and ensure proper identification with armbands.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred.

Job Summary

The Registrar supports patient care by accurately capturing and verifying demographic and insurance information through both in-person and telephone interactions. This role ensures a seamless registration process by scheduling procedures, securing necessary authorizations, and maintaining complete and organized patient records, all while providing exceptional customer service.


Essential Functions


  • Interacts with patients and their families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.

  • Regulates schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.

  • Schedules patient procedures as required and pre-registers scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.

  • Verifies insurance eligibility using designated applications, captures correct health insurance details, and secures necessary authorizations and verifications for services.

  • Collects and records patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.

  • Communicates operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.

  • Compiles and organizes registration documentation to ensure completion of patient medical records.

  • Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.

  • Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and assists with resolving insurance-related questions.

  • Carefully documents on forms if the patient is unable to sign the consent authorization forms, or why a family member signs the forms and has nursing sign off if the patient is unable to sign.

  • Places an armband on each patient before the patient leaves the department to ensure proper identification of the patient throughout their stay.

  • Answers and returns phone calls, addressing questions with professionalism and courtesy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.


Qualifications


  • Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of insurance verification and basic medical terminology.

  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention detail in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and registration software.

  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to work with patients, families and healthcare teams.
