University Health in San Antonio is seeking a Patient Access Clerk to interview patients, collect demographics and insurance information, and complete admission registrations at UH locations to support accurate billing.
You will discuss service charges with privately paying patients, assist with payment arrangements, collect copays and coinsurance, and obtain required forms per Medicare/Medicaid and other agencies.
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Interviews patients to obtain accurate and complete patient demographic and insurance information in order to complete the admission and registration of all patients at various locations throughout UHand to ensure the Patient Billing Department can bill timely and correctly for the services rendered at UH. Communicates with privately paying patients about service charges and assists patients with payment arrangements. Collects copays, coinsurance and other monies that may be owed by patients. Collects appropriate forms for admission as required by Medicare, Medicaid, insurance companies and/or other agencies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school graduation or equivalent is required. Post high school coursework is preferred. Six (6) months experience in a hospital/physician setting, obtaining insurance benefits and pre-certification is preferred. Prior collection experience is preferred. Billing experience and contract knowledge is preferred. One year of experience in a similar occupation and basic medical terminology and ICD 9 coding experience is preferred.
