Job summary

Highpoint Health- Winchester, in partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas, is seeking a Registrar to gather patient demographics and insurance information for outpatient services, collect payments at the point of service, and expedite the registration process with a positive impression.

You will report to the Director of Patient Access and collaborate with admitting staff to verify benefits, obtain precertifications, and explain forms to patients.

Qualifications

• Obtains and enters demographic, billing, and clinical information accurately.
• Distributes forms and explains documents to patients and family.
• Interacts with patients and caregivers to verify information and answer questions.
• Verifies insurance benefits and coordinates precertification/authorization.

Responsibilities

• Enter registration data timely and accurately.
• Explain forms and provide educational handouts.
• Meet with patient or caregiver before or after admission to collect information.
• Coordinate with admitting office to determine placement.
• Collect payments including co-pays and deductibles or refer to financial counselors.

Education

High School Diploma or GED Preferred; Associate’s Degree Preferred

Job Summary

Registrar

Collects patient demographic and insurance information for outpatient services. Collects insurance, co-pay, and deductibles at Point of Service. Quickly and efficiently expedites the registration process. Provides a positive first impression of the hospital to the public.

Reports to: Director of Patient Access

Essential Functions

• Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
• Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
• Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
• Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
• Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary. Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up

Education

High School Diploma or GED Preferred; Associate’s Degree Preferred

Certifications

Handle with Care to be received within 30 days of orientation and kept annually.
