Job summary

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our Respiratory Care department on 12-hour shifts. You will provide advanced airway management, manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and support high-risk deliveries in a NICU setting.

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Licensed to practice in Illinois.
• CPR and NRP certifications required.
• Level 3 NICU experience required.
• NPS preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced airway management including intubation.
• Manage respiratory care modalities (invasive/non-invasive ventilation, bubble cpap, HF oscillator, jet ventilation).
• Administer meds via nebulizer and intratracheal surfactant; manage medical gases.
• Initiate and conduct therapies such as aerosol therapy and airway clearance.
• Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal rapid response codes.
• Blood gas collection and analysis.
• Communicate recommendations to the care team based on results.
• Document in patient records and ensure billing accuracy.
• Provide clinical precepting for new staff/students.
• Educate families about respiratory care and discharge prep.
• Participate in quality improvement projects.

Summary of Job Responsibilities

• Provides advanced airway management, to include intubation.
• Assume primary responsibility (select, assemble, monitor and manage) for respiratory care modalities including invasive and non-invasive ventilation, bubble cpap, and high frequency oscillator and jet ventilation.
• Medication administration via nebulizer and intratracheally (surfactant administration) and medical gases (Nitric Oxide)
• Initiate and conduct therapeutic treatments/procedures such as aerosol therapy, airway clearance, and secretion mobilization.
• Attends and is an active team member for high-risk deliveries and neonatal rapid response codes,
• Blood gas acquisition and analysis
• Communicates with the care team by making recommendations based on patient compliance, response, and laboratory/x-ray results; recommendations include initiation, escalation, de-escalation, and discontinuation
• Documents work efficiently and accurately in the patient medical record and department records, and assures all patient billing is complete.
• Provide clinical precepting of new team members or students, as needed.
• Communicate with patient’s families, providing education regarding respiratory care being provided and/or in preparation for discharge.
• Participate in quality improvement projects.

Requirements

Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed in the state of Illinois. CPR. NRP certification. Level 3 NICU experience required. NPS preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.
