The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. Graduate Nurse (GN) Role

The Graduate Nurse (GN) is a member of the patient care delivery team. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the GN engages in patient care activities, including patient/family education, for a group of patients and their families through communication and collaboration with all team members, ancillary services, and support services.

Responsibilities may vary by unit or service line, based on the patient population. Units may add or delete duties from the GN role when approved by nursing administration.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with care team members to ensure quality care and promote positive employee relations. Demonstrate understanding of continuous improvement, teamwork, and DMC's mission, vision, and values.
2. Coordinate patient care activities under supervision, including patient/family education, discharge planning, and evaluating care progress. Facilitate care activities involving other departments to optimize patient outcomes and participate in cost containment.
3. Provide direct patient care by assessing needs, developing care plans, executing physician orders, documenting responses, and promoting safety. Educate patients and families about health status and home care requirements.
4. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers in the nursing process, including care planning and risk assessment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
• Temporary authorization to practice as a graduate nurse under supervision, as required by law or policy.
• Must obtain RN license from Michigan within 90 days of hire; failure to do so may result in employment classification change or termination.
