Job summary

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for the PACU Float Pool. This full-time day shift role offers flexible hours across 6AM–6PM, 7AM–7PM, or 9AM–9PM shifts to meet department needs.

The nurse will perform comprehensive health assessments, develop care plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes. Virginia RN licensure, BLS/ACLS, and NIHSS are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible for licensure.
• 2+ years of critical care RN experience preferred.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments and interprets data.
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessments.
• Supports patient/family through care continuum and transitions.
• Advocates for patient rights and coordinates with care teams.
• Documents care activities per standards and contributes to quality initiatives.
• Mentors other staff and serves as a clinical resource.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
• Supports and empowers patient/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues.
• Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
• Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes.
• Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members.
• Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Records.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Licensure: Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi‑state Registered Nurse license.
• Experience: 2+ years of critical care RN experience preferred.
• Certifications: BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association) & NIHSS.
• Additional: If RNs have an Associate’s Degree within 2 years of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1. Identify which school they plan to attend; 2. Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion; 3. Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required prerequisites and timeline for taking the courses; and 4. Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
