Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool for part-time days, with shifts 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM. This role supports patient care across units within the hospital, delivering high-quality nursing services.

Qualifications

• 1 year of RN experience required; critical care pathway requires 1 year in critical care or completion of a critical care fellowship
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS for Critical Care units and PALS within 6 months for pediatric units
• Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in Virginia (or multi-state license)
• BSN or ADN with plan to complete BSN within 5 years of hire

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient health assessments and synthesize data to guide care
• Develop individualized plans of care and monitor progress against best practices
• Support patients and families through health promotion and end-of-life decisions
• Advocate for patients' rights and coordinate with the healthcare team to resolve issues
• Coordinate care across disciplines and mentor other staff; maintain documentation and pursue ongoing education

Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
• Supports and empowers patient/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues
• Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
• Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes
• Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members
• Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse; if Critical Care Unit, minimum 1 year clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship
• Certification: Basic Life Support; If Critical Care unit, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support upon start; If Pediatric unit, Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire
• Licensure: Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi‑state Registered Nurse license'
• Education: Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree; If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend, 2) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date, 3) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre‑requisites and timeline for taking the courses, and 4) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
