Job summary

Norman Regional Health System is seeking a RN for our Med/Surg Observation Unit. The unit operates a 24-bed telemetry/medical-surgical service with a supportive team including a charge nurse, unit assistants, and allied departments.

Orientation includes 6–8 weeks with a preceptor, classroom courses, and a nurse residency for new graduates. The role emphasizes professional, compassionate care, and a pace appropriate to telemetry patients with a 7a-7p day shift.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or ADN required; BSN or MSN preferred.
  • Previous hospital nursing experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and reassess health needs for individuals across age groups.
  • Perform nursing diagnoses and outline expected outcomes.
  • Coordinate and implement care using evidence-based practice and policies.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care as needed.
  • Assess discharge needs and plan follow-up.
  • Maintain professional practice and documentation.

Departmental Overview

Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team, complemented by classroom courses, and a nurse residency program for new graduates. Job Summary

RN essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment/reassessment - Systematically assesses / reassesses the health care needs of individuals; appropriate for specific age groups and patient conditions. Involves patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate
  • Nursing Diagnosis and Outcomes - Analyzes assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes, involving patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate
  • Implementation and Coordination of Care - Provides nursing care through interventions to achieve goals and needs using professional judgement guided by current evidence-based practice, regulations and policy
  • Evaluation - Evaluates patient outcomes by utilizing the critical thinking process and evidence based knowledge to recognize problems, evaluate facts and reach sound conclusions
  • Evaluates discharge needs related to plan of care utilizing resources as needed

Compensation / Benefits
  • $27-84-$45.46/hr. based on previous work experience.
  • Evening differential $2.50/hr.
  • Night differential $3.00/hr.
  • Weekend differential $3.00/hr.

Qualifications
Education
  • Diploma or Associate’s degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
Experience
  • Previous hospital experience helpful preferred

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience).

Licensure / Certification
  • Current Oklahoma Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment
  • New grads are required to complete Norman Regional's Nurse Residency Program
