The Observation Unit at High Point Medical Center, part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, is a 12-bed unit caring for acute patients with stays under 36 hours. After 6 months, you’ll be cross-trained for the Clinical Decision Unit—a 12-bed extension of the ED for short-stay patients.
You will provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care via the nursing process, using evidence-based practice to ensure safety and the best patient experience across the care continuum.
The Observation Unit is a 12-bed general medical-surgical unit that handles acute patients with expected stays less than 36 hours. Upon completion of 6 months in the Observation Unit, you will be crossed-trained for the Clinical Decision Unit, which is a 12-bed extension of the Emergency Department. The Clinical Decision Unit handles patients that are requiring extended Emergency Department stays; however, they are expected to be discharged within 24 hours. The Clinical Decision Unit is a protocol driven unit.
