Job summary

UP Health System - Portage is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) in the obstetrics unit. This part-time OB RN role features a 0.45 FTE schedule with three 12-hour shifts, primarily nights, and rotating weekends/holidays.

You will provide direct patient care to obstetric patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates hold a Michigan RN license and an associate's degree, with a bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold an active Michigan RN license.
• Associate's degree from an accredited nursing program (bachelor's preferred).
• BLS-HCP certification required.
• 1 year medical-surgical experience preferred.
• OB experience or OB qualifications preferred.
• NRP, AWHONN, EFM, STABLE and PEOP within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan of care interventions including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other patient care tasks.
• Documents patient care provided.
• Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team, physician, patient and family.
• Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care.
• Coordinates patient care across disciplines including transfers, discharge, referrals, and psychosocial support.
• Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education tailored to age, culture, and condition.
• Advocates for patient physical and emotional well-being.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

How you'll contribute

An OB RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.

• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
• Performs other job duties as assigned

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).

Additional requirements include:

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
• One-year medical surgical experience (preferred)
• OB experience or OB qualifications (preferred)
• NRP, AWHONN, EFM, STABLE and PEOP (within 6 months)
• Annual influenza vaccination or declination required
