Job summary

UP Health System - Portage in Michigan is seeking an OB RN to join our compassionate team. This flex position offers 12-hour shifts (7-7) with nights prioritized, 0.6–0.9 FTE or 48–72 hours per pay period, and coverage for Christmas Eve years plus every third weekend and every third holiday.

You'll plan and document patient care, monitor and advocate for patients, and collaborate across disciplines to support safe, high‑quality obstetric care while pursuing professional development and reachable

Qualifications

  • Current Michigan RN license.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school; bachelor’s preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care provided.
  • Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
  • Collaborates across disciplines for patient care coordination and discharge planning.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age and culture.
  • Advocates for patient well-being and safety.

How You'll Contribute

An OB RN who excels in this role:

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).

Additional Requirements Include
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
  • One-year medical surgical experience required
  • OB experience or OB qualifications (preferred)
  • NRP, AWHONN, EFM, STABLE and PEOP (within 6 months)
  • Annual influenza vaccination or declination required
