Job summary

UP Health System - Portage is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a flex position with 48–72 hours per pay period. The role involves providing care interventions, documenting patient care, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Job description

Registered Nurse (RN), OB

Job Type: Flex Position – 0.6 to 0.9 FTE or 48–72 hours per pay period.

Schedule: 12‑hour (7–7) night/day shifts, nights primary. Includes Christmas in even years, every 3rd weekend, and every 3rd holiday.

Responsibilities
  • Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment.
  • Document patient care given.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Current Michigan RN license.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited nursing school (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS‑HCP) certification.
  • One year of medical‑surgical experience required.
  • OB experience or OB qualifications (preferred).
  • NRP, AWHONN, EFM, STABLE, and PEOP certifications within 6 months.
  • Annual influenza vaccination or declination required.
