Job summary

Starr Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Med Surge RN in Athens, TN. This role offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus for qualified applicants and a comprehensive benefits package. The Med Surg team emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and delivering high‑quality patient care.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate's degree (BSN preferred) with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications desired. TN RN licensure is required to begin the relocation process if applicable.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
• BLS Certification required at time of hire; ACLS and PALS preferred.
• TN RN license (single-state or compact) required.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
• Establishes a plan of care with patient involvement.
• Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during shift.
• Assists in staffing and assignments based on census and acuity.
• Provides direct patient care as needed.
• Floats between staff to support problem-solving.
• Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
• Evaluates care effectiveness and patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through channels.
• Performs admissions/discharges and coordinates transfers.
• Ensures staff has equipment and supplies for safe care.

How you'll contribute

A Med Surge RN who excels in this role:

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
• Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
• Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
• Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
• Provides direct patient care as needed.
• Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
• Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
• Performs role‑specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
• Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.

What we're looking for

Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required at the time of hire, ACLS, PALS, Handle with Care preferred,

Licenses: Active TennesseeRN license (single-state or compact) required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
