Job summary

Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN, is seeking an experienced ICU RN for night shifts in a fast-paced ICU. You will perform direct patient care, assess condition, and coordinate care within the nursing process.

The role requires at least one year of direct ICU experience in a high-acuity setting, BLS, and TN RN licensure; PALS within 6 months is preferred. Sign-on bonus available for qualified applicants.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree is required; BSN preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • BLS certification is required at time of hire; Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire or department transfer.
  • Active Tennessee RN license (single-state or compact) required; if relocating, license must be updated before employment begins.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
  • Establishes a plan of care appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during shift.
  • Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on census, acuity and flow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and floats between staff.
  • Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Evaluates care effectiveness and addresses issues affecting outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints and manages through established channels.
  • Performs admissions/discharges and coordinates transfers.
  • Ensures staff have equipment and supplies for safe patient care.

Job Type: Full-Time | Nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am, rotating weekends.

$20,000 Sign‑On Bonus available for qualified applicants.

Provides direct patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Patient Populations Served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.

How you'll contribute
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
  • Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
  • Performs role‑specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  • Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.

What we're looking for
