Job summary

Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN, seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department on a part-time/PRN basis. You’ll provide high-quality emergency care and collaborate with a skilled team in a fast-paced setting.

The ideal candidate holds an ADN (BSN preferred), TN RN license, and current BCLS; ACLS/PALS preferred. Join a mission to deliver exceptional care to the Etowah and Athens communities.

Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Tennessee RN license (single-state or compact).
  • BCLS required; ACLS/PALS preferred; Handle with Care preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress ED.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Develops and updates plans of care with patient input.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing staff during shifts.
  • Assists in staffing and assignments based on census.
  • Delivers direct patient care as needed.
  • Floats to assist with problem-solving.
  • Takes assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Evaluates care effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints and manages through channels.
  • Handles admissions, discharges, and transfers.

How you’ll contribute

An Emergency Room RN who excels in this role:

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient’s condition.
  • Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
  • Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  • Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.

What we’re looking for
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Certifications: BCLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred.
  • Licenses: Active TennesseeRN license (single-state or compact) required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
