Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital in North Carolina seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Float Pool. This PRN night position involves 12-hour shifts, with floating across units as needed, and provides direct patient care across Med/Surg, ICU, ED, and more.

Ideal candidates hold an NC RN license, BLS; ACLS/PALS within six months, and 2–4 years of CCU experience. Excellent critical thinking, collaboration, and documentation skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Active North Carolina RN license required.
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications required within six months of hire.
  • 2–4 years of critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify nursing needs.
  • Initiate appropriate nursing interventions for patient conditions.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and monitor patient responses.
  • Document medical necessity accurately in the medical record.
  • Develop and revise Interdisciplinary Care Plans for each patient.
  • Complete and review timely QI assessments.

Schedule

12-hour shifts, PRN-As Needed. Night shift (7p-7a), weekend and holidays.

Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice across multiple inpatient units (Med/Surg, ICU, PCU, ED, L&D, Mother/Baby, NICU, Pre-Op/PACU, Post-Surgical). Demonstrates flexibility to float where needed and collaborate with interprofessional teams to support safe, high-quality care. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:



  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs

  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient

  • Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record

  • Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient

  • Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

What we're looking for


  • Licenses: Active North Carolina or compact state RN license required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.

  • AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.

  • 2-4 Years critical care experience preferred.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
