Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse Emergency Department is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care providers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

Facility: Spalding Medical Center

It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses in Emergency Services are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As members of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care. Coordinate care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient outcomes.
  • Relationship-Based Care: Provide patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) while respecting cultural diversity.
  • Partnerships: Partner with patients and significant others through methods like bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching, ensuring patient goals are central to the care plan.
  • Standards of Practice: Practice according to current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality care, promoting respectful and inclusive interdisciplinary communication and documentation.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting the recruitment and retention of healthcare staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, high-quality patient care.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Complete all required professional competencies, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serve as a preceptor or mentor to support workforce development, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement activities, including participation in value analysis.
  • Uphold organizational policies, procedures, and standards, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements like TJC Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participate in data collection, pose clinical questions, consult experts, and utilize evidence to improve practice.

Resources and Support

  • Proactively plan patient care across the continuum.
  • Develop protocols and procedures collaboratively to improve outcomes such as reducing readmissions and adverse events.
  • Support efficient use of resources.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies, standards, and codes of conduct.

Minimum Education: Accredited Nursing Program or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred).

Licenses and Certifications: All certifications required upon hire unless otherwise specified, including RN license (single state or multi-state), BLS, ACLS, and PALS (preferred or provisional).

Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience preferred.

Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, critical thinking, time management, and proficiency with clinical technology.
