Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services is looking for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) in Houston, TX to oversee donor eligibility and manage medical emergencies. Candidates must be licensed RN, NP, or PA and have at least two years of clinical experience.

Job description

Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse)

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, and confidential self‑exclusion; conduct medical history interview and acceptability requirements; perform physical examination, blood testing, and review of serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
• Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility as outlined in SOPs; follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including development of Center Physician standing orders and transport of donors to emergency care facilities.
• Refer donor findings or medical/technical issues to Center Physician or Medical Affairs as appropriate, ensuring effective donor safety and eligibility decisions.
• Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health or emergency response; refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
• Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations associated with pandemic threats in the local community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, including a recognized nursing education program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state of assignment: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Complete FDA‑approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• At least two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

Availability

Open availability required between 2 PM and 10 PM.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly wage range: $24.32 – $33.44. Actual wage may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
