Job Description

A Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) who reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports plasma center operations, ensuring donor eligibility, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, managing informed consent, AIDS education, self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
• Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of Center Physician’s standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings to donors or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is needed by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
• Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations of pandemic threats within the local community.
• Maintain knowledge of regulations governing plasma collection or manufacturing environments and provide center‑level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS) per BioLife Medical Affairs guidance.

Qualifications

• High‑school diploma or equivalent, or graduate-level nursing program with state requirements.
• Licensed or certified RN, NP or PA in the state of assignment.
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• State‑mandated basic IV therapy competency.
• Completion of FDA‑approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Minimum two years of clinical or hospital experience.
