Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Recovery Room to support postoperative care in a fast-paced setting. You will monitor vitals, manage pain, assist with airway and breathing, and ensure safe recovery after anesthesia.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year perioperative or PACU experience, active Texas RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications, with BSN preferred. This on-site role offers day shifts and full-time hours with Prime Healthcare benefits.

Qualifications

• Current and valid RN license in Texas.
• BLS (AHA) certification required at hire and maintained.
• ACLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire and maintained.
• Previous Critical Care or PACU experience or minimum one year on-the-job training.
• CCRN preferred.
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients' vital signs and detect complications early.
• Assess and manage pain, administer medications as needed.
• Maintain airway and support adequate breathing post-anesthesia.
• Continuously assess consciousness and neurological status during recovery.
• Inspect surgical sites, manage drains and dressings; observe for infections.
• Provide reassurance to patients and communicate with families about recovery timelines.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and healthcare team on patient status.
• Document all aspects of care, medications, responses and interventions.
• Deliver post-operative discharge instructions to outpatients before discharge.

Overview

Position: Registered Nurse

Department: Recovery Room

Shifts Available: Days (some call)

Employment Type: Full Time

Hours: 8 hour shifts

Location: Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen TX

Responsibilities

• If you have at least one year of experience in the Perioperative area of the operating room as a Circulator, OR Nurse, PACU Nurse or Surgical Nurse you are encouraged to apply!
• Closely monitor patients’ vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiration, to detect any complications early
• Assess and manage pain levels, administer medications as needed to keep the patient comfortable
• Ensure the patient maintains a clear airway and adequate breathing, address any respiratory issues that may arise post-anesthesia
• Continuously assess the patient’s level of consciousness, neurological status, and overall stability as they recover from anesthesia
• Inspect surgical sites, manage drains, and dress wounds as necessary, while observing for signs of infection or other complications
• Offer reassurance and comfort to patients as they wake up, often disoriented, in a calm and soothing environment, keep the patient’s family informed about their condition and the expected timeline for recovery
• Communicate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals regarding the patient’s status and any concerns that arise
• Document all aspects of care provided, including medications administered, patient responses, and any interventions performed
• Deliver post-operative discharge instructions to outpatients prior to discharge

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN License.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Previous Critical Care or PACU experience or minimum of one year on the job training.
• Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
