Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Operating Room RN to provide comprehensive nursing care during surgical procedures. The role involves collaborating with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and preparing patients for surgery, including conducting assessments and verifying identities.

The ideal candidate must possess a valid state RN License and relevant certifications such as BLS, ACLS, and PALS. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and perioperative experience are preferred for this full-time position.

Qualifications

• Must have a current and valid state RN License.
• Must have current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire.
• Must have current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire.
• Must have current PALS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire.
• Minimum of one year previous perioperative experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and ensure all equipment is functional.
• Assist in preparing the patient for surgery by verifying identity and surgical site.
• Document relevant information and vital signs during the procedure.
• Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking an Operating Room RN also known as an OR RN or perioperative nurse, provides comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery. Operating Room Nurse work within the operating room setting, collaborating with surgeons and other surgical team members to ensure patient safety and well-being. OR RNs prepare patients for surgery, which includes reviewing medical history, conducting assessments, educating patients and families about the procedure, and administering pre-operative medications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, ensure the cleanliness of the environment, and confirm that all required equipment is functioning properly
• Assist in preparing the patient for surgery, which may involve verifying the patient's identity and surgical site, helping to position the patient on the operating table, and ensuring that all necessary pre-operative procedures are completed
• Document pertinent information before, during, and after the surgical procedure, such as the patient's vital signs, medications administered, and any other relevant details for the patient's medical record
• Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room by adhering to strict infection control protocols and ensuring that all team members follow proper procedures for handling instruments and equipment

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN License.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Current PALS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Minimum of one year previous Perioperative experience or on the job training
• Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) Certification (AORN) preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
