Ascension in Nashville, TN is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Pulmonary Post Thoracic Surgery department. This full-time night shift role involves direct patient care for post-thoracic surgery patients, chest tube management, and close collaboration with a thoracic surgery team.

The ideal candidate will hold an RN license in Tennessee, with BLS and ACLS within required timeframes, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Tennessee.
• BLS Provider certification required within 1 month of hire date.
• ACLS certification required within first 3 months of assignment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-thoracic surgery patients.
• Collaborate with thoracic surgery team and pulmonary interventionalists.
• Monitor chest tubes and pleural drains; manage post-operative complications.
• Assess and respond to respiratory compromise, including oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Manage post-thoracic surgery patients including lobectomy, pneumonectomy, VATS procedures, and chest wall surgeries
• Close collaboration with the thoracic surgery team and pulmonary interventionalists.
• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions including lung cancer.
• Monitor and manage chest tubes, pleural drains, and post-operative complications
• Assess and respond to respiratory compromise, including oxygen therapy, high-flow devices, and non-invasive ventilation

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

• Required professional licensure/certification AND 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

• Must obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification for this unit within the first 3 months.
