Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking experienced travel nurses for Surgical Progressive Care Unit in Indianapolis, Indiana. The unit handles ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, and medical overflow patients with ICU-level acuity.

Travelers must have ACLS and BCLS, at least 2 years of nursing experience, and be capable of cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, feeding tube management, and postoperative care. Floating to Med-Surg/PCU/ICU is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring (unit-based).
• Experience with chest tubes and tracheostomy care.
• Experience with epidural management and non-titratable cardiac drips.
• Familiar with insulin protocols and infusion management.
• Able to float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU as needed.

Responsibilities

• Travel nurses may be assigned charge nurse duties with training and resources provided.
• Precept and/or supervise students shadowing during assignment.
• Float to different levels of care as required; refusal may affect contract.

Candidate Eligibility

First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Local candidates are not eligible.

Call-In Policy

• For a 0.9 FTE: The missed day must be made up within the pay period.
• If unable to make up the shift within the pay period (0.9 FTE), the shift will be added to the end of the contract.
• For a 1.2 FTE: Any call-in shifts will be added to the end of the contract.

Weekend Requirements

Travelers are expected to work every other weekend as per their contract.

Depending on operational needs, consecutive weekends may be required based on the highest demand.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities

Based on operational needs, travelers may be assigned charge nurse duties with appropriate training and resources provided.

Precepting and Student Assignments

As this is a teaching facility, all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment.

Only candidates agreeable to these requirements should apply.

Floating Requirements

Travelers may be required to float to different levels of care, including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU.

Resources will be provided if needed.

Refusal to float may result in termination of the contract.

1 nurse to 3-4 patients

Unit Information

Surgical Progressive Care Unit with near ICU-level acuity.

Patient populations include:

• ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy)
• Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy)
• General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel, liver resections)
• Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND)
• Medical overflow patients

Additional Facility Policy

Effective 11/30/24, internal nurses will not be permitted to work at the facilities, with exceptions.

Perioperative/OR nurses, allied health professionals, and ambulatory nurses are exempt and may continue working past this date.

Perioperative includes Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, PACU, Cath Lab, and Same Day Surgery nurses.
