Job summary

Ascension Health in Racine, WI, is seeking an experienced OR Scrub Nurse in the Surgery department for a Day Shift, Full-time schedule. You will lead comprehensive patient care in the operative setting, scrub and prep instruments, and assist the surgical team with positioning, hemostasis, and wound closure to ensure optimal outcomes.

You will maintain OR readiness, ensure sterility of all equipment, and support a smooth procedural flow.

Qualifications

• ACLS obtained within 6 months of hire date.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 month of hire date.
• RN licensure in WI or MN/Compact State required.
• Diploma or higher in nursing required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the comprehensive patient care journey in the operative setting, monitoring and communicating vitals for safety and continuity.
• Perform scrub functions, select and prep instruments to maintain a sterile field during procedures.
• Assist physician with patient positioning, hemostasis, and wound closure to support positive outcomes.
• Prepare the operating room and ensure instruments and equipment are sterile and ready for each case.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Lead the comprehensive patient care journey in the operative setting (pre-intra-post-op) by continuously monitoring, recording, and communicating vital patient status updates to ensure optimal safety and continuity of care.

• Execute specialized scrub functions, meticulously selecting and preparing all surgical instruments and supplies to maintain a sterile field and support the procedural flow, directly contributing to surgical success.

• Support the surgical team directly by assisting the physician with critical tasks, including precise patient positioning, achieving hemostasis, and facilitating wound closure to ensure positive surgical outcomes.

• Maintain a state of procedural readiness by preparing the operating room, ensuring all instruments, supplies, and high‑tech equipment are functional, sterile, and immediately available for every case.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• One or more of the following required:

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Minnesota Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Licensure is dependent on state associate works in.

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Licensure from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing OR current home state license if considered multi‑state/Compact State. Licensure is dependent on state associate works in.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire required.
