Carson Tahoe Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Labor and Delivery unit in Carson City, NV. This per diem role requires delivering safe, family-centered care during labor, delivery and postpartum periods.

The nurse will participate in care planning, monitor fetal health, and support newborn care alongside a multidisciplinary team. The position emphasizes adherence to nursing standards, patient teaching, and involvement in discharge planning, with opportunities for additional unit

Qualifications

  • Nevada RN license or Interim Permit required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification within six months of hire.
  • NRP certification within six months of hire or transfer to unit.
  • STABLE certification within twelve months of hire or transfer to unit.
  • C-EFM certification within three years of hire or position entry and renewed every three years thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessment and evaluation of the pregnant and postpartum patient including vital signs and fetal monitoring.
  • Identifies abnormal data and communicates findings to physicians and care team for care planning.
  • Develops and documents individualized care plans incorporating patient and family in decisions.
  • Delivers care to the newborn and administers newborn medications, monitoring vital signs.
  • Delegates and supervises care scheduling for non-professional staff and ensures adherence to policies.

Summary

Under the direction of the department manager/supervisor and under supervision of a charge nurse/team lead, responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient.

Qualifications

Required:

  • State of Nevada licensure as Registered Nurse or Interim Permit
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers Certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six (6) months of hire or transfer to unit
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Program certification within twelve (12) months of hire or transfer to unit
Unit Specific Requirements

Required:

  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR National Certification Corporation (NCC) Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within three (3) years of hire or position entry and renewed every three (3) years thereafter.
Preferred:
  • NVCI/CPI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) initial certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Essential Functions
  • Performs assessment and evaluation of the pregnant and postpartum patient by assessing vital signs, fetal heart tones, fundal height, pregnancy related symptoms, incision, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
  • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
  • Includes the patient and their family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
  • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and their family.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Evaluates and notes the individual patient’s response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
  • Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
  • Delivers care to the newborn, administer newborn medications, assist with newborn procedures, and monitors newborn vital signs.
  • Assists in the teaching or preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals with clinical time in the clinic.
  • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
  • Has knowledge of and adheres to Carson Tahoe’s policies and procedures.
  • Attends 80% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required unit and hospital education and employee health annual requirements by the established deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
