Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health is seeking a registered nurse to deliver safe, patient-family centered care under the direction of the department manager and supervision of a charge nurse. The role emphasizes proficiency with the nursing process, assessment, care planning, and evaluation to improve patient outcomes.

Required are Nevada RN licensure, BLS, ACLS within 90 days, PALS within 6 months, and at least one year of acute care experience. Preferred CAPA/CPAN certifications may enhance eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Current, unencumbered RN licensure or Interim Permit in Nevada.
  • BLS certification for healthcare providers from AHA.
  • ACLS certification for healthcare providers within 90 days of hire (AHA).
  • PALS certification for healthcare providers within 6 months of hire (AHA).
  • Minimum of 1 year acute care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate patient condition using the nursing process.
  • Identify abnormal diagnostic data and communicate findings to physicians.
  • Participate in care planning and establish patient/family goals.
  • Develop individualized care plans and update as patient needs change.
  • Involve patient and family in planning and education.
  • Document care plans and discharge planning elements.
  • Provide patient teaching and supervision of staff as needed.
  • Support/lead unit conferences and evidence-based practice improvements.

Job description

Under the direction of the department manager and under supervision of a charge nurse, responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers within ninety (90) days of hire
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for healthcare providers within six (6) months of hire
  • Previous one (1) year acute care experience
Preferred:
  • Certified Ambulatory Peri anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) and/or Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse(CPAN) certification
Essential Functions
  • Performs assessment and evaluation of the patient by assessing vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
  • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
  • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
  • Includes the patient and his or her family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
  • Documents an individualized care plan based upon the changing needs of the patient and incorporates each patient’s chronic and acute conditions.
  • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Evaluates and notes the individual patient’s response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
  • Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
  • The RN will be expected to make evidence-based practice recommendations for improvement of the delivery of patient care via the patient care conference and unit conference.
  • May be required to function as Team Leader.
  • Assists/Serves in the teaching/preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals with clinical time on the Unit.
  • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
