Job description

Job Description: Registered Nurse - Float Pool

To provide holistic nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario, organizational and unit standards, and to participate and collaborate with other healthcare providers in the provision of patient care. As a Float Pool Nurse, you work across various units within the hospital and can step in where staffing needs arise. As a registered nurse, you are responsible for making clinical decisions and exercising judgment to ensure the best possible nursing care is provided within available resources.

DUTIES:
  • Participate and collaborate with other healthcare providers in patient care.
  • Utilize the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Provide health education to patients and their families.
  • Assist in planning corrective actions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
  • Comply with legislation, organizational and departmental regulations, standards, and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certificate of Competency in Ontario.
  • Current venipuncture (IV) certification.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Recent experience providing bedside patient care in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in managing and caring for medical and post-acute patients.
  • Knowledge of Oncology, Palliative, Telemetry, Stroke, and Surgical patients.
SKILLS:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
ABILITY:
  • Knowledge of the use and care of all mechanical equipment required for patient care.
  • Willingness to complete a comprehensive hospital orientation for all inpatient units supported by the float pool.
  • Ability to maintain professional and positive working relationships, interacting pleasantly and responsibly with colleagues and patients both in person and via telephone, demonstrating tact and courtesy.
  • Behaviors aligned with the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.
