Job summary

Ascension's Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, TX seeks an RNFA to support surgeons during pediatric procedures. You will position patients, assist with exposure and visualization, and manage blood loss to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role emphasizes collaboration with the surgical team, adherence to high standards, and ongoing professional development in a leading Catholic health system.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified Registered Nurse specializing in Operating Room credentialed from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI) preferred.
• Certified Registered Nurse specializing in First Assistant credentialed from the National Assistant at Surgery Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive Patient Care: Support surgeons before, during, and after operations by properly positioning patients to ensure the best surgical access while keeping them safe and comfortable.
• Clear Site Visualization: Help surgeons get a clear view of the operating area by managing tissues, using retractors, controlling fluids (suctioning, irrigation, and sponging), and following physician instructions.
• Bleeding Control: Use proven techniques to manage and stop bleeding quickly, both temporarily and permanently, during the procedure.
• Wound Closure and Recovery: Assist with closing body layers, applying dressings, and securely placing drainage systems to support patient healing.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration
