Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed

  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients according to physician orders and policies.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain the environment of care.
  • Participate in professional development and performance improvement activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of scope of practice for RN, LPN, and NCA.
  • Application of the nursing process and professional theory.
  • Ability to assess needs of patients and families, establish effective relationships, communicate clearly, and teach patients and families.
  • Proficiency in using sensory, cognitive, and motor skills in patient care.
  • Competent in BLS and other life support as required.
  • Ability to document assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations accurately.
  • Ability to navigate the healthcare environment and withstand physical demands such as prolonged standing and walking.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program (or enrolled in a BSN program if hired without one).
  • Current RN licensure in North Carolina or a compact state.
  • BLS certification.
