Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed

Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the care plan based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care. Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel in delivering care and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain a safe environment, including equipment and material resources. Participate in professional development, maintain required competencies, and support the development of others. Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and participate in related activities. Perform other duties incident to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of scope of registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and unlicensed staff
  • Knowledge and application of the nursing process
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of patients and families
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently seek resources
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, healthcare team, and leadership
  • Ability to teach patients and families
  • Proficiency in using sensory, cognitive, and motor skills
  • Competence in BLS and other life support requirements
  • Ability to document using electronic and paper tools
  • Ability to navigate the clinical environment and withstand physical demands

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program
  • At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina
  • BLS certification required
