Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Assist in the education of patients and families according to the nursing plan of care. Adhere to policies, procedures, and scope of practice as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Participate in professional development and performance improvement activities.

Work Performed

  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care using the nursing process for patients according to physician orders and policies.
  • Use professional judgment to individualize care plans based on patient assessments.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise other nursing staff.
  • Assist in delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor and maintain the environment, including equipment and resources.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and quality improvement activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of scope of practice for RN, LPN, and NCA roles.
  • Proficiency in nursing process, theory, practice, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of patients and their families.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, seeking resources as needed.
  • Required BLS and other life support certifications as designated by work area.
  • Effective documentation skills using electronic or paper tools.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and perform clinical tasks.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program required.
  • Minimum of 12 months of clinical experience required; exceptions possible for exceptional performers with 6 months of experience.
  • Current RN licensure in North Carolina and BLS certification required.
