Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, physician orders, and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families, participating in professional development, delegating tasks, supervising activities of other licensed and unlicensed staff, and acting as preceptor to support the development of team members. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care
  • Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other licensed and unlicensed staff
  • Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain a safe environment
  • Support the development of staff through mentoring and educational opportunities
  • Assess patient needs and responses to care, adjusting plans as necessary
  • Utilize professional nursing judgment to individualize care plans
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and identify opportunities for quality enhancement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of scope of practice for RNs, LPNs, and unlicensed staff
  • Knowledge of the nursing process, professional theory, and practice
  • Ability to assess nursing needs and work collaboratively
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team
  • Ability to teach patients and families
  • Competence in BLS and other life support requirements
  • Proficiency in documentation and computer skills
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking, remain organized and focused

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program required; nurses hired between July 1, 2014, and April 11, 2021, without a Bachelor's degree are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire and complete it within seven years.
  • Minimum of 12 months of clinical experience required; exceptional performers with 6 months may be considered at manager's discretion.
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina required.
  • BLS certification required.
