Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Document care and establish effective working relationships. Use sensory and cognitive skills to prioritize and process information. Teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and participate in professional development activities.

Work Performed

  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care based on the nursing process and physician orders.
  • Use professional judgment to individualize patient care plans.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise other care providers.
  • Assist in delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor environment and maintain safety and equipment standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of nursing scope, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of patients and families.
  • Ability to document and communicate effectively using computer and paper tools.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and focus for extended periods.
  • Completion of appropriate training and certifications, including BLS.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited BSN program. Current RN licensure in North Carolina. BLS certification. Twelve months of clinical experience preferred. Opportunities for advancement based on performance and participation in Duke’s Nurse Residency Program.
