Job Title: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
Reports to: BCBA, Special Education Coordinator, Building Administrator
Purposes and Objectives of the Position:
- As defined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional certified in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior-analytic services and practice under the direction and close supervision of an RBT Supervisor and/or an RBT Requirements Coordinator, who are responsible for all work RBTs perform.
- The RBT is responsible for assisting with the direct implementation of skill‑acquisition and behavior plans for Special Education students.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with exceptionalities.
- A valid Registered Behavior Technician Certification conferred by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board- The RBT will meet and maintain all of the requirements of the RBT certification.
General Duties and Requirements
- Certification is supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst
- Acts as a support to special education staff to provide behavior support services for students.
- Confers with district administrators, teachers, and other staff on a regular basis to assist with maximizing the effectiveness of provided special education services.
- Supports the development of classroom environments that are conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of special education students.
- Implements procedures, and follows the behavior intervention plan (BIP) in the student’s
- Implements skill acquisition procedures as well as behavior reduction procedures with fidelity.
- Assists with behavioral assessments including but not limited to preference assessments, individual students skills assessment, and functional assessments.
- Prepares for, collects, and reports required data and service documentation and assists in
- Assists the teacher in strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Facilitates independent work and/or small groups set up by teachers and transitions as indicated in the student’s IEP.
- Provides escort and assistance to students as necessary throughout a variety of school and community settings.
- Assists with supporting students during large group instruction.
- Assists teacher in maintaining work and study areas, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assists with the supervision of students during regular play/leisure periods.
- Participates in orientation, workshops, in-service training, and team meetings as pre-determined by the BCBA and/or SpEd Administrator
- Assists with self-care tasks such as lunch, snack, clean up, wash up, and toileting routines.
- Assists teacher in working with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Assists the teacher in maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning.
- Assists in preparing programming materials
- Assists in prompting students to reinforce previously taught materials.
- Partner with BCBA and/or SpEd Administrator to plan/prepare behavioral and data-driven
- Maintain consistency of Behavioral Intervention Plans by communicating and providing input to teachers and other support staff.

- Ability to use necessary district-identified computer hardware and software, and other districtprovided technology.
- Ability to physically adapt to the compressed time schedule of a school day and year.
