Job summary

Naugatuck Public Schools is seeking a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to provide direct behavioral intervention to students under the supervision of a BCBA. You will implement individualized plans, collect data, and support communication, social, and adaptive skills in line with IEPs.

The ideal candidate holds current RBT certification from BACB and is ready to work in a school setting. Bachelor's or associate degree is preferred; strong collaboration and confidentiality are essential.

  • Assists in preparing materials for instructional and behavioral programming.
  • Attends staff, department, and parent meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Director of Special Services

Location: Districtwide

JOB SUMMARY: Under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral intervention services to students, implements behavior plans, collects accurate and objective data, and supports the development of students' communication, social, and adaptive skills in alignment with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The RBT adheres to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) RBT Ethics Code 2.0, district policies, and applicable state and federal laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements individualized behavior intervention plans and skill acquisition programs designed by the supervising BCBA.
  • Provides direct, one-on-one or small-group behavioral support in classrooms, community settings, and other school environments.
  • Accurately collects, records, and summarizes data on student performance and behavioral incidents.
  • Assists in the generalization of learned skills across settings, activities, and people.
  • Uses approved de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies as trained and necessary.
  • Maintains a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborates with teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure consistent application of interventions.
  • Participates in required supervision meetings with the BCBA at a frequency consistent with BACB requirements, and implements feedback with fidelity.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with district policy and ethical guidelines.
  • Assists in preparing materials, visual supports, and resources needed for instructional and behavioral programming.
  • Attends staff meetings, department meetings, and parent conferences as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, implement protocols with accuracy, and implement behavioral techniques that are ethically and culturally responsive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and human relation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to respect the rights of all students and the rules of confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to work with students in a variety of physical positions (e.g., seated, standing, floor-based activities) and to respond quickly in crisis situations.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical guidelines of the BACB.
  • Prior experience working in a school setting is preferred.
